Karen B. Moore

Karen Blohme Moore passed away unexpectedly January 26, 2022, at Lake Forest Hospital on the dawn of her 77th birthday, with the love of her life, Craig, by her side. Karen is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Craig Moore; her loving children, Jeff (Julie) Moore of Lake Forest and Lauren Moore (Tim) Benson of Libertyville; her sister Janet Bentz; her grandchildren, Thomas (Nicci) Moore, Carter Moore, Harrison Benson, and Cecelia Benson; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Sherry Moore; her niece and nephews, Adam Moore, Carrie Krosse, and Steven Bentz; and her cat Littlebit. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Dorothy Blohme and her nephew Aaron Moore. Karen was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Baldwin, PA. After marrying, Craig and Karen lived in 10 different cities before settling down in Lake Forest, IL in 1986 to raise their family. In recent years, Karen enjoyed spending time in Door County, WI and living in Palm Coast, FL. Karen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who cherished spending time with family sharing and listening to stories and experiences. She possessed incredibly diverse knowledge along with quick wit and a delightful sense of humor that always made for engaging and fun conversations. Karen had a love of cooking on land and sea. Her gourmet cooking skills were generously shared to bring friends and family together, and a visit to Karen’s kitchen revealed her tremendous knowledge of food preparation and spices of the world. She had an adventurous side and shared the family’s love of watercrafts. Karen enjoyed kayaking, sailing, and powerboating, spending part of every summer day-boating and cruising with friends and family. She would often appear from the galley after a rough, challenging passage and announce she had just finished baking a meatloaf or some other comfort food, totally undaunted by wind and waves. Karen was also a gifted artist. Friends and family would wait with much anticipation for her annual Christmas card she produced using an original piece of her artwork. While she enjoyed the challenges of watercolor the most, she worked in all mediums, even producing porcelain dolls from molds to finishing touches. She founded and managed an antique reproduction doll business with her highly collectible pieces. Karen’s artistic talent extended to flower arrangements and a keen eye for interior design. Karen was an avid reader and put a high value on education. She taught elementary school for several years, and later adult education technology classes and art workshops. No matter what the subject, she made others feel confident in their abilities, regardless of the task or their experience level. This trait was evident in her everyday life, always encouraging the endeavors of others, celebrating their victories, but always there to pick someone back up during any setbacks, which is why she was able to positively impact so many people throughout her life. Karen will truly be missed as a loving wife, mom, sister, aunt, Mum Mum, and friend. There will be a private family service at a future date to be determined.
