Harry Lee Gehring, Jr, 86, of Lake Bluff, IL died peacefully on May 6, 2025. Harry was born May 5, 1939 in Louisville, KY to Dr. Harry Lee and Antoinette Gehring. He was raised in Louisville and earned accounting and law degrees from the University of Louisville and remained a devoted Cardinal fan all his life. Harry moved to St. Louis, MO shortly after graduating and met the love of his life, Margaret, on a blind date in 1964. Harry and Margaret married in St. Louis in 1966 and moved from St. Louis to Minnetonka, MN, expanding their family along the way. The Kentucky native moved further north for his job and settled in Duluth, MN for the next 36 years. Harry and his family enjoyed the snowy winters skiing and the beautiful summers sailing on Lake Superior. Harry worked at RSM as a tax partner for over 20 years until retirement in 2001. His retirement was full of travel, attempts at mastering his golf swing, and visiting family and grandchildren. He volunteered extensively in the community and his church and served on many boards. The gifts of his time, talents and kindness will always be remembered and appreciated. Harry and Margaret fully retired in 2014 and settled in Germantown, TN close to family and warmer weather. Harry enjoyed their garden, travel, and the sporting events of his grandchildren and great nephew. Harry’s and Margaret’s final move was to Lake Bluff, IL to be near family. His love of family and his faith was strong until the end and an inspiration to all. Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Harry and Antoinette Gehring, his brother Dr. Stephen Gehring, brother-in-law Peter Dance, and his daughter, Kathleen Gehring. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Margaret Gehring, children Harry Gehring (Wanda) of Arlington, VA and Anne Boberski (Vince) of Lake Bluff, IL; sister Jamie Dance, and sisters-in-law Susan Gehring and Mary Schmitt. He will be remembered as a wonderful Grandpa by Vince, Zach, Krista and Margaret. He will be missed by nieces and nephews, Stephanie Tancredi (Anthony), David Dance, Andrew Dance (Jennifer), Steve Gehring (Tomo), and Dr. Jim Gehring, and great nieces and nephews, Daniel, Samantha, and Andrew Tancredi and Kenneth and Rebecca Gehring. Harry was fortunate to have wonderful friends and neighbors throughout his life. He was blessed to have amazing caregivers at the Sheridan in Lake Bluff in his final years, as well as from Freedom Home Care and Accord Hospice. His family can’t thank them enough for their kindness and compassion. A visitation will be held at the Church of St. Mary’s, 175 East Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 10:30 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM.
