MEMORIAL SERVICE & LIVESTREAM SCHEDULED - May 7, 2021 at 11a.m. William K. Platt, M.D. “Doc”, 85, of Lake Forest, IL died September 20, 2020. He is survived by his four children, Dr. Lawrence W. (Dr. Michelle S.) Platt, Roger F. (Elizabeth B.) Platt, Elizabeth T. Platt, and Kenneth A. (Stevie C.) Platt; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Carol, Owen, Anna, Kyle, Andi, & William; and many nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his wives Pamela Stratton (2012) and Margaret Carol Fuller (1965); his siblings, Robert, Jack, & James Platt and his parents John H. & Arlene Platt. Doc was an upbeat, energetic person who loved spending time with his extended family, which included numerous pets. He faced significant challenges throughout his long life, but never complained – he was authentic and playful to the end. He was naturally gifted at music and could play a song on piano by ear, but his real love was sports. He enjoyed playing and watching sports of all kinds, including squash, paddle tennis and golf. A lifelong love of his was attending Northwestern football games, where he went to medical school and met his first wife Margaret. He was also on the volunteer faculty at Northwestern Medical School for 25 years. His talents on the squash court allowed him to play for Williams College as an undergraduate and also led to consecutive victories in the popular 50/50 squash tournament at the Onwentsia Club. Paddle tennis was another passion and he played for fun well into his 60s. Always eager to hear (or tell) a good joke, Doc had an irreverent sense of humor that could sometimes surprise (or shock!) those who didn’t know him well. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was quick to express his opinion, but he was rarely judgmental. He respected anyone who treated him with kindness. He and Pam shared a love of animals and wildlife, with Lake Owen in northern Wisconsin being one of his favorite places on earth. Perhaps their greatest joy was sharing time up there with family and friends. Doc grew up in Winnetka and attended New Trier High School, but Lake Forest was his home since 1965 and he loved the community. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Westminster, Lake Forest, IL. This is an open service and subject to 100 person gathering.
