Jovan Vojcanin, 86, of Crown Point, and formerly of Chicago, Darwin, Australia, and Ruma, Serbia, peacefully following several strokes. Born on June 22, 1929 in Zemun, KSCS, he was the second of five children born to +Sava and +Vata (Jovanovich) Vojcanin. Married to his beloved wife +Ljubinka “Lili” (Yovanovich) for over 50 years, he is survived by his sons Sava Alexander (Valerie), Stevan John (Sladjana), and Marko Nikola (Diane). Devoted Deda to John William, Elizabeth Sophia, and George Andrew, he is also survived by his sisters Katica (Atanackovic) and Jelena (Vojcanin), and several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Jovan is preceded in death by his brother + Zivojin (Sofia) and sister + Melanija (Popovich). A polyglot and accomplished Master Machinist, Jovan escaped from the ravages of WWII and the ensuing communist tyranny in the early 1950s. He worked with the Royal Atomic Energy Commission in the Rum Jungle, Northern Territory and thereafter with the Campbell Soup Co., Reynolds Metals, and Nabisco Brands in Chicago. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church (Bellwood) and in his retired years, a parishioner of St. George Orthodox Church (Schereville). A proud Australian and forever grateful American, Jovan was a member of the Charles Carroll Elementary School PTA, Culver Academies Parents’ Association, and numerous charitable organizations. Visitation from 4 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville, IL 60048, with a Pomen at 7:30 p.m. Funeral at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, at St. Sava Orthodox Monastery, 32377 Illinois Rte. 21, Libertyville, IL 60048 followed by interment in the Monastery cemetery.
