Austin A. Vandenheuvel

October 7, 1931 - January 24, 2022

Austin A. Vanden Heuvel, 90 of Lake Bluff formerly of Lake Forest & Highland Park, IL passed away on January 24, 2022. He was born October 7, 1931, in Kaukauna, WI to Martin and Gertrude (nee Hartjes) Vanden Heuvel. Austin was a loving, gentle and thoughtful husband for 31 years of Marlene “Molly” (nee Bonk); devoted father of Susan (David) Hosier, Mark Vanden Heuvel, Gary (Liz) Vanden Heuvel and Scott Vanden-Heuvel; adoring grandpa to Jill Jamison, Monica Jamison, Katie Niekamp, Michael Vanden Heuvel, Sean Vanden Heuvel, Megan Rogers, Amber Emken, Megan Voit, Zoe Pawelczak; dedicated great-grandpa to Charlotte, Toby and Piper Eisenhut, Carter Vanden Heuvel, Anna and Leah Niekamp, Gordon Margolis, Evan Rogers, Jaxon, Jamison and Jemma Jones; dear brother of Eileen Northway, the late Ivol (Theresa), the late Rita and (Dick) Worden, Jim (the late Hazel (Kay), Bob (the late Anna May), Vince (Betty), Owen (Jean) and Dianne (Clete) Nelessen. Beloved stepfather to Molly’s children Greg (Jeannie) Bonk, Jeff (Christine) Bonk, and Kathy (the late Brian) Early; as well as eight step grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren. Austin is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Austin was a proud member of the Local 250 Carpenters Union for 45 years. He served as the Union president for 25 years where he and Molly took many memorable trips around the country for annual meetings. He was proud to have served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. Austin was a devoted member of the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest, where on any given Saturday service could be found ushering congregants to their seats. Per his wishes, Austin will be cremated, and a Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10am at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be the Lydia Home Adoption Association at 4300 W.
