Allan Nelson Jones

November 28, 2021

Allan Nelson Jones, 57, of Delray Beach, Florida and Lake Forest, Illinois, died November 28, 2021 in a New York Hospital from complications related to Chronic Granulomatous Disease. A service will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Westminster, Lake Forest, IL on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 11:00AM. Allan was born in Shaker Heights, OH on March 25,1964 to the late Marie Sturgis and Hugh Milton Jones. He was one of three brothers, Hugh Milton Jr., of Locust Valley, NY and the late Andrew Edwards Moody. His brother Andrew, who married Brenda Carvell, died in 1994. The family moved to Lake Forest, Illinois in 1975, where Allan spent 45 years growing up surrounded by family and friends. He attended Lake Forest Country Day School, Tabor Academy, a boarding school in Marion, Massachusetts and graduated in 1986 from St. Lawrence University, in Canton, New York. Allan shared enormous passion for competitive sailing, backgammon and fly fishing in the great outdoors. Allan proved to be an excellent sailor and was a member of the Tabor Academy sailing team. Allan’s love of sport and the outdoors was a constant theme – along with his positive attitude which was unwavering. After college, Allan spent 6 years in San Francisco working for Merrill Lynch and Oracle. His acumen for data analysis led to a long successful career as a commodities trader for several top trading firms in Chicago. In 1992, Allan met Shannon Chandler. They would go on to raise their two beautiful daughters, Katherine Chandler and Hannah Elizabeth in Lake Forest. Whether in the streams of the Rocky Mountains, the rivers of upstate New York or the ponds in Northern Wisconsin, Allan had a deep understanding for fly fishing. A long cast where the fly line landed quietly on top of the water provided Allan with a sense of peace and tranquility he could not find anywhere else - a personal escape from the medical challenges that Allan faced over his lifetime. For Allan, a good fly fishing trip was never complete without the companionship of his closest childhood friends. Family always meant the world to Allan. He lived his life to the fullest while enjoying the many accomplishments of his two daughters Katherine and Hannah, who were his constant pride and joy. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Chronic Granulomatous Disease Society, PO Box 454. Dartford, DA1 9PE United Kingdom – www.cgdsociety.org
