John D. Sternberg, Jr.

John David Sternberg, Jr., age 75 of Lake Forest, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 15, 1949, in Elgin, Illinois, to parents John David Sternberg, Sr. and Evelyn Mae Sternberg, John's life was a testament to the values of family, education, and community. John's academic journey was marked by a bachelor’s degree in political science from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, followed by a Juris Doctor Degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. His education laid the foundation for a life dedicated to the service of others, both professionally and personally. For 45 years, John shared an unwavering partnership with his beloved wife, Deborah Anne Sternberg. Together, they raised three sons, John David Sternberg, III, Michael Henry Sternberg, and Matthew Karl Sternberg, in a home filled with laughter, encouragement, and unconditional support. An avid White Sox fan, John's enthusiasm for the game was infectious. He shared his love for baseball with his sons and the many he coached, instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. John's legacy is one of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. He approached every interaction with a warm smile and an open heart, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross his path. His character was the embodiment of integrity, and his spirit was characterized by a profound sense of duty to his family and community. John is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Anne (Hughes) Sternberg; his sons, John David (Alyssa Marie) Sternberg, III, Michael Henry Sternberg, and Matthew Karl Sternberg. He was preceded in death by his father, John David Sternberg, Sr., and his mother, Evelyn Mae Sternberg. There will be a visitation at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, on Monday, March 18, 2024.
