Carol Marie Marwede

The family would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and hope you all stay safe!** Carol Marie Marwede, 89, of Lake Forest, Illinois passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 12, 2022. Carol was a longtime resident of Lake Forest who devoted countless hours to her church, organizations, and her beloved community. Carol was born on August 18, 1933, in Neenah, Wisconsin to the late Carl Porath and the late Marie Bellin Porath. She is survived by her three children, Lisa Marie Brewster (Scott) of Lake Forest, Alfred Andrew Marwede (Brenda) of Lake Forest, Mark Carl Marwede (Ellen) of Lake Bluff, Illinois; and nine grandchildren, Madeline Sarman (Shaill) and Drew Brewster, Hannah, Jake and Hope Marwede, John, Caroline, Katherine and Ben Marwede. After high school, Carol attended the Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During this time, she met the love of her life, her late husband, Alfred “Bill” William Marwede. The couple was wed in 1955 and from then on, Bill affectionately called Carol his “prize of ‘55”. Carol worked as a registered nurse with Dr. Paul Burgert in Lake Forest for many years. She took time off to raise her three children. Once they were grown, she returned to work at Abbott Laboratories, followed by Hewitt Associates. Never one to stand still, in addition to raising her family, Carol stayed very active with competitive tennis and running. She also devoted countless hours to volunteering in her children’s many activities. She derived great joy from spending time with her 9 grandchildren, whom she treasured. Faith Lutheran Church was an important part of Carol’s life, and she was considered to be a pillar of the congregation over the years. She was a longtime and active member who volunteered for many causes including the Imani Garden Project and the Stephen Ministry. Leadership and outreach programs held a special place in her heart, and she lived out her faith by serving others. She was a dear friend to so many and showed kindness to all that she met. Of all the things Carol cherished, her family and faith were the most important. A private family interment will be held at Lake Forest Cemetery.
